Hey, Wait Up!

Time. Where does it go and why does it need to go there so quickly? Lots has happened since the last post. That grandbaby is more than a month old now and changing as I write. My heart misses him daily. But his mama sends me photos by way of cell phone that pleasantly interrupt my otherwise mundane days and let me make that connection across some miles. Lovely.

Our friends Ian and Gill visited for two weeks from England. Ian has stopped in before on his business travels, but this was Gill's first time. They arrived early in the week and began to acclimate/acclimatize to the time zone. John was able to show them some of the local sights, even going up to Hurricane Ridge in the Olympics. I wonder why it's called that as we don't get hurricanes here. Perhaps you are supposed to be able to see hurricanes from there? Or maybe it gets windy enough some days to feel like one? I don't really know. In any event, the weather has been spectacular since July, so they got to see the region dressed in her finest, so to speak.

On Friday of that first week, we all departed for Maui. We immersed ourselves in the experience, even taking Hawaiian Airlines which was a good choice. With the exception of seating that is on the compact side, the airline was a pleasant 5 hour trip. We stayed at the villas in Kaanapali Beach and had ocean views, giving us a nightly opportunity for sunset watching. Maui offers lots to do, especially for first-time visitors, and didn't disappoint. Ian and John even wore Hawaiian shirts. Ian chose a red shirt being promoted as the one Tom Selleck wore in the Magnum P.I. television series years ago. He caught the eye of several locals who complimented him on the choice although Ian has no experience with or knowledge of this Tom Selleck guy (or Tom Selkirk as he and John renamed him). He just bought it for the parrots! John's selection was a more "sedate" gold on black piece, but it's a start. I see more island wear in his future.

We arrived back on the mainland on Friday night the next week and had a relaxed weekend before our visitors flew back on Tuesday. And here it is the weekend after a packed work week. I am leaving Tuesday to attend a conference in L.A. and John is leaving Monday for his usual trip to the Bay area. Roosevelt will need to stay in the kennels for a few days. So, the work week was busy trying to get everything that needed to be done, done. And it is. Yesterday I spent a good amount of time getting a handle on paperwork needed for my father's ongoing medical needs.

Waiting at the Airport
On a final note, my sisters and my nieces and I have developed a silly ritual that involves a pair of stuffed penguins (it's a long story) who "participate" in holidays or other events. They even show up dressed in appropriate attire. Well, they stowed away on our trip to Maui and had a fantastic time as the photos below will attest. Time won't wait, so we better enjoy the journey, right? Here are some of the penguins excellent Maui adventures.

We're flying Hawaiin Airlines!
